BASA Protea Glen partnered with Old Mutual to establish and build The BASA Protea Glen Combined School in Protea Glen, Soweto. This partnership made it possible for the construction of a brand new combined school with state of the art facilities to all children of Protea Glen. The school has a capacity of 1,600 learners in 40 classrooms, 3 computer labs, science and biology labs. This school has 2 soccer fields as well as athletics tracks and other sports facilities available on site for all learner to participate in. The hall has the capacity of 500 people to host all major Art and Cultural activities presented by the school. The school opened its doors on 1st January 2015.
Old Mutual and BASA have also revamped BASA Protea Glen Primary school which opened its doors in January in 2017, another "state of the art" school for the people of Protea Glen.
This partnership will hopefully encourage other similar projects creating opportunities for all the people of Protea Glen to establish a top class education going forward into the future.
The Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF), its asset manager the Public Investment Corporation (PIC) and Old Mutual Investment Group SA (OMIGSA), signed an agreement in 2013 to finance BASA Educational Institute Trust schools. The agreement has seen the renovation and expansion of Soweto-based BASA Protea Glen Primary School and the development and operation of a new high school, called the BASA Protea Glen Combined School.
